It happened in California in 2000. Otep Shamaya, vocalist, and Evil J. Mcguire, bassist formed the unclassifiable musical force called OTEP. Within a year the new group was invited to join the Ozzfest 2001 tour. A year later their first album - Sevas Tra - blazed onto the scene, bending genres and expectations, and starting the build of a loyal and adventurous fan base.
Now OTEP has returned to its roots, to the raw trail blazing of Sevas Tra. Their newly released album, The Ascension, never looks back, never settles for the conventional, and builds no bridges to what has come before. Two initial cuts from the album foreshadow the depth of commitment that went into The Ascension. The cutting vulnerability of "Perfectly Flawed" and the demand to be heard that powers "Confrontation" signal that OTEP hasn't lost its taste for experiments that take you to the edge. |
