| KRS-One |
Kris Parker first used the moniker KRS-One as his graffiti tag, while a teen in the Bronx. He made his first recordings with DJ Scot La Rock, for their two-man group called Boogie Down Productions. After the untimely death of La Rock, KRS-One made more Boogie Down recordings with a revolving cast of featured artists, including his brother DJ Kenny Parker, his wife Ms. Melodie and beatboxer D-Nice.
In 1993 KRS-One went fully solo with the release of Return of the Boom Bap. An amazing, eclectic mix of albums has followed – albums that have stretched the musical limits of hip hop, and expanded the political range of rap. The title of his 2007 release says it all: Hip Hop Lives. KRS-One has no questions about the future of hip hop. He keeps making it year after year. |
